UIA 2023 COPENHAGEN WORLD CONGRESS

From 2 to 6 July 2023, the world’s architects will meet in Copenhagen, Danemark, for the 28th World Congress of the International Union of Architects, dedicated to the theme of Sustainable Futures - Leave no one behind

The registration fee must be paid in Euros either on-line by invoice (bank transfer), credit card (Master or VISA), or EAN invoicing. Early bird discounts are offered to participants who register before 31 March 2023

  • Students: 70  Euros
  • Accompanying persons: 175 Euros

WORLD ARCHITECTURE DAY 2022: WEBINAR

On 3 October 2022, the UIA celebrated World Architecture Day with the theme, Architecture for Well-Being. UIA Member sections around the world mobilised around the theme in many ways, organising conferences, exhibitions or celebrations in an effort to address the connection between the built environment and health in the wake of the pandemic.

INDIA

C.R. Raju, President of the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), issued a statement committing the IIA to making  architecture "supportive of a healthy built environment.”

MALAYSIA

The Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) organised many activities, including an exhibition, as well as a fun run, a forum and a health market.

LUXEMBOURG

The Ordre des architectes et des ingenieurs (OAI) issued a summary of their activities (publications, policies and exhibitions) regarding health and the built environment.

GHANA

The Ghana Institute of Architects (GIA) organised an event at GIA’s Architecture House featuring various Ghanaian architects to discuss design and health.

HUNGARY

The Hungarian Chamber of Architects organised a conference featuring -Foreign Affairs Minister János Lázár and AHA President András Krizsán alongside Hungarian architects.

MACAU

The Architects Association of Macau (AAM) will hold a celebration event and awards ceremony at the Convention Hall of the Macao Science Center on 31 October.

SPAIN

The Consejo Superior de los Colegios de Arquitectos de España (CSCAE) invited experts to a conference addressing urban health and sustainability, also issuing a Declaration.

PORTUGAL

The Ordem dos Arquitectos (OA) organised a WAD programme 6, 21 and 27 October including an exhibition, a debate and the launch of a new award.

  UIA COMPETITIONS  ▼

EXTENSION: BYRSA ACROPOLIS & CARTHAGE MUSEUM INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

The submission deadline (electronic + paper) for the UIA-endorsed international one-stage design competition for the Requalification of Byrsa Acropolis and Rehabilitation of the Carthage National Museum has been postponed to 23 January 2023. Accordingly, the deadline for submitting questions has been postponed to 14 October 2022, the deadline for responses to questions is now 4 November 2022. The competition is organised by Expertise France in collaboration with the Tunisian Ministry of Culture and with the support of the European Union.

UIA GREAT GREEN WALL STUDENT COMPETITION: UIA COPENHAGEN 2023

Following the 149th Council session in Copenhagen, Den, the UIA Great Green Wall single stage student ideas competition, spotlighting innovative design ideas for affordable housing in Africa's Great Green Wall desert region, was designated the official student competition of the 29th UIA World Congress. New dates for the awards ceremony will be announced shortly. Submissions for the competition closed on 30 September. More than 150 entries from 40 countries around the world were counted.

WEBINAR: UIA AWARD FOR INNOVATION IN ARCHITECTURAL EDUCATION

The UIA Commissions for Education and Sustainable Development Goals are co-hosting a webinar in parallel to the second edition of the UIA Award for Innovation in Architectural Education (Sustainable Development Goals).  Open to colleges, schools, or programs of architecture, the Award will recognise excellence, innovation and sustainability in architectural and urban design education

MEXICO: BIENNIAL

The award ceremony for the XVII National Biennial of Mexican Architecture, organised by the Federacion de Colegios de Arquitectos de la República Mexicana (FCARM), took place on 1 October, the national day of architecture in Mexico. UIA President Jose Luis Cortés and Council Member Teresa Taboas were in attendance.

NEPAL: CONVENTION

The Society of Nepalese Architects (SONA) has changed the dates for the SONA Annual Convention with the theme, The Role of Architecture in the Creation of Identity in the Contemporary City. It is now taking place from 19 to 20 January 2023 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The deadlines for abstracts is now 20 November.

JAPAN: FORUM

On 20 October from 13:30 to 16:00 (JST), the Japan Institute of Architects (JIA) International Relations Committee, is hosting a forum with Asian experts on preservation and revitalisation, as well as presidents of architectural associations from around the world. The forum will be streamed live on YouTube in English and Japanese with simultaneous interpretation.

UNITED KINGDOM: STERLING PRIZE

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has announced The New Library, Magdalene College in Cambridge by Níall McLaughlin Architects winner of the 26th RIBA Stirling Prize attributed to RIBA Chartered Architects and International Fellows for buildings in the UK which have made the greatest contribution to the evolution of architecture over the past year.

KENYA: URBAN THINKERS CAMPUS 2022

The Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) is hosting the Urban Thinkers Campus (UTC) 2022 on the Essentials of City Building: Managing Urban Development. Six sessions within the theme will be addressed on 19, 25 and 27 October 2022. The UTC is an initiative of the World Urban Campaign driven by UN-Habitat and conceived as an open space for critical exchange between urban researchers, professionals, and decision-makers around the subject of urbanisation.

DAYLIGHT TALK WITH EWA KURYŁOWICZ

On Tuesday, 18 October 2022 at 16:00 Paris time, the Warsaw University of Technology is presenting a talk by one of Poland’s most prominent architectural firms, Kuryłowicz & Associates, as the final volume in the Built with Light segment of the 2022 Daylight Talks. The Built with Light series seeks to explore the role of daylight, not only as a component of a healthy indoor environment, but as a creator of forms, an essential part of space orientation, wayfinding and haptic technology.
